Choose the recurring program when your family actually uses the yard — a deck in Perrywood, a fenced dog run in Marlboro Meadows, a play set in Balmoral. One spray knocks down the adult mosquitoes present that day and gives roughly two to three weeks of relief; it does nothing about the next hatch out of a clogged gutter or the ticks a deer drops off next week. The single visit fits a specific date: a graduation cookout, a rehearsal dinner, a family reunion. If you want usable evenings from Memorial Day through leaf drop, the repeating cycle is the honest answer, and we do not require a 12-month contract to start — you can book one treatment and decide after.

Upper Marlboro geography drives the pressure. Properties near the Patuxent floodplain — Croom, the roads running down toward Patuxent River Park and Jug Bay Natural Area — sit close to tidal marsh and wet bottomland that produce mosquitoes no yard treatment can prevent, so those lots depend on a strong perimeter barrier rather than source removal alone. Newer developments like Beechtree, Marlboro Ridge and Oak Creek have stormwater retention ponds and long wooded buffer strips behind the rear fence, which is exactly the habitat Asian tiger mosquitoes and deer ticks use. Older lots around the Old Marlboro Historic District and Schoolhouse Pond tend to have mature English ivy, boxwood and stone walls — cool, shaded harborage where adult mosquitoes wait out the afternoon heat. Deer traffic out of Rosaryville State Park, Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and the greenway near Watkins Regional Park keeps resupplying ticks to adjacent Melwood and Rosaryville yards, which is why the tick portion of the work concentrates on the first ten to fifteen feet inside the tree line instead of the open lawn.

The part homeowners underestimate is standing water. Asian tiger mosquitoes breed in containers, not ponds — a bottle cap of water is enough, and their flight range is short, meaning most of the mosquitoes biting you on the patio were born in your own yard. Before treatment, dump and store plant saucers, tip wheelbarrows, clear gutters, drain tarps and kiddie pools, and check the ribbed drain pipe running off downspouts. We treat what cannot be dumped, including birdbaths handled with larvicide rather than adulticide. Grass kept shorter, leaf litter raked off the woods edge, and firewood moved off the ground reduce tick survival more than any product does.

Safety questions get a straight answer. Applications are made to vegetation and structural surfaces, not to open lawn where kids roll around, and we ask that people and pets stay off treated areas until the product has dried — usually well under an hour in Prince George's County summer heat. Vegetable gardens, koi ponds, and blooming pollinator plantings get flagged during the walk-through and skipped or buffered. If a beekeeper is next door, tell us and we adjust timing. Heavy rain in the days right after a visit can shorten how long a treatment holds, and we will tell you that up front rather than after the fact. Identify the pest.
